Olivia Friedman, M.A.

Psychology Intern

About Olivia Friedman, M.A.

I view therapy as a holistic and flexible space where sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals. I believe in a collaborative therapeutic relationship, one in which you feel supported, heard, and seen as a partner in your path toward healing and growth. Whether you’re navigating a specific challenge or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I strive to help you feel empowered in facing life’s stressors.

My Approach:

I approach our work together with compassion and curiosity. I am grounded in a psychodynamic framework to help you explore emotions, patterns, and core themes that may be shaping how you experience life. I also integrate tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, while supporting you in developing effective coping strategies for everyday life. Additionally, I incorporate trauma-informed therapy as needed.

I have expertise working with individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship and intimacy concerns, trauma, immigration stressors, chronic medical issues, and life transitions. I am deeply attuned to you and your experiences in our sessions, listening with care to understand what’s happening for you, while offering thoughtful feedback and insight. I hold a supportive space and aim to help you connect with your inner strengths and resilience, while also integrating skills as needed for you to use in your daily life.

My Professional Background:

I am currently completing my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University. I received an M.A. in Psychology from The New School for Social Research and a B.S. in Fiber Science and Apparel Design from Cornell University.

I specialize in both short-term and long-term psychotherapy, as well as psychological assessment. My previous clinical experience includes placements at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, the International Rescue Committee, the Headspace Training Institute, and the Adelphi University Center for Psychological Services, where I have worked with a diverse range of adults, teenagers, and groups. My dissertation is on a CBT-based intervention for individuals living with kidney disease and undergoing dialysis.
