A Few Words From Our Current And Past Interns

Anthony Boiardo

“As a psychology intern, I have appreciated the rich training environment at MPSS. Working under the supervision of Dr. Khadivi and Dr. Saad has offered me a diverse educational experience that blends multiple theoretical orientations (CBT, psychodynamic, and DBT) and techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine. This has made my learning experience as an intern truly unique.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the multiple types of supervision, including individual and group, which have allowed me to think critically about my cases and challenge myself to develop new clinical competencies. I particularly appreciate Dr. Saad and Dr. Khadivi’s warmth in their supervision as it has allowed me to take risks as I grow as a clinician while knowing that I have the support of my supervisors. I have thoroughly enjoyed the weekly Team Meeting with postdocs and staff psychologists as it has enriched my ability to view cases from a number of different perspectives. I highly recommend this internship and the sense of community that MPPS offers.”

“One of the most striking things I have observed at MPPS so far is the diversity in the experience and orientation of the psychologists working here and how well they collaborate with each other. Dr. Saad provides an integrative and holistic view that brings different perspectives together to develop them into extremely useful and efficient techniques to be used in our work with patients. Supervision and didactics with Dr. Saad and Dr. Khadivi have been eye-opening, and their unique styles complement each other. “

“While we are presented with practical clinical materials on various topics, both Dr. Saad and Dr. Khadivi are also extremely committed in fostering the individuality of each person. They constantly encourage us to pay attention to internal growth as well as the learning of specific therapeutic techniques. I am looking forward to beginning a skill-based group work with a very experienced clinical psychologist next week, and am also excited to do more couple’s work which is a rare experience at an internship site. I am very much enjoying the diversity of the training and experience at MPPS, and the warm atmosphere of the community that also promises enormous growth. I feel very lucky to have this be my first workplace and a training site where I continue to develop my identity as a clinician.”

“I have found the internship at MPPS to be refreshing, rewarding, and challenging. I found Dr. Saad’s approach refreshing. She genuinely encourages and supports our personal well-being and work-life-balance so that we can bring our best clinical selves to our patients. Additionally, the training is tailored to our interests, i.e. if you want to learn more about CBT you can work with a CBT supervisor. This is one of the many benefits of working with diverse, talented, and experienced team members.”

“Dr. Saad has fostered a sense of warmth and community in the practice despite the challenges of virtual work. I feel pragmatically and emotionally supported. We have received more supervision and didactic training than I have experienced in past training programs and it has helped me to approach clients with concrete skills and direction, which I find extremely helpful and comforting. At the same time, supervisors have bolstered the skills we have already acquired and value our unique individuality. The learning curve is steep but incredibly rewarding. I feel grateful for the experience I have gained at MPPS.”

“My experience on internship at MPPS has been rewarding, challenging, growth-oriented, and fun. The internship focuses on learning high-level technique for effective psychotherapy, how various theoretical orientations flow through into what actually works in a given session with a patient. The practice highly values the diversity of clinical approaches therapists take and provides varied training experiences built into the internship. “

“Dr. Saad and Dr. Khadivi are both highly committed to fostering individual clinicians’ existing strengths and adding to everyone’s repertoire, rather than changing or “fixing.” I have felt valued as a clinician and team member. The patient work is amazing, the supervision is excellent, and the intern didactics are high quality. I deeply appreciate that the community feel of the practice is warm, generous, flexible, and collaborative. I am grateful to have had an internship experience that supports work-life balance, flexibility, and discovery of one’s own clinical voice, while doing good work, learning deeply, and developing skills for effective psychotherapy.”
