Decode, Don’t Control: Rethinking Your Child’s Relationship with Screens
Is your instinct to control your child’s use of screen?
Think again!
If you lean into controlling, the message passed on is that the child has to connect to the bad within themselves and the world, and protect themselves.
You absolutely want your child to be aware and protect themselves but having them lean on the bad is an approach based on fear. We already have too much fear.
Let’s help them connect with themselves: the beauty of what they value and who they are and the danger of leaning into this in an unaware way, as it creates addictions.
Let’s take a creative child, they will be stimulated by screens, as it will germinate many ideas in their mind and they will love it, they will feel alive looking at screens. So in one way, it will foster new ideas, creativity for them.
But if the moment they are bored, they lean to screens, now screens have been used to avoid boredom and they have robbed themselves the opportunity to examine their relationship to boredom and find a way to transform it without relying on outside stimulation.
As a parent, if you only control their screen time or make them aware of how addictive screens are you have robbed your child from the opportunity to understand what happens within them and how they operate internally.
Imagine how more powerful it would be if you show your child how you see the creative impact of screens on them but you also see how now they have lean into that creative impact to avoid boredom and therefore the question arises: how will they deal with boredom the next time screens are not available?
You make they aware of their tendency to lean into creativity and their tendency to rob themselves from the opportunity to overcome boredom without screens. The moment they value creativity, they will dislike lack of it and therefore they will dislike boredom and will avoid it instead of transform it.
This pattern is knowledge they need as it will show up in many areas in their life
So instead of teaching your child control, teach them self awareness on who they are and their patterns in life so they learn to recognize them fast and deal with them at an early age. That is the best way to prepare them for a successful happy life!
Empower them, do not control them!
This is the power of my Inner message Approach®!
Let’s decode our children’s relationship to screens so that we help them move forward empowered and more connect to who they are and their patterns in life.
